Meet the artist behind Feral Fiber
Hey I’m Kallie! I’m the artist behind Feral Fiber. I am a self professed textile nerd and chronic illness advocate.
My love of fiber crafts started as a way to cope with pain. I was desperate for an answer to the question ‘How was your day ?’ that didn’t send me spiraling. Creating kept both my hands and mind busy. More importantly, it let me answer that dreaded question “My pain was bad but look what I made!”
If you’ve never experienced chronic pain its hard to understand how challenging the mental battle can be. Creating is an essential part of my preventative care and a true source of joy on dark days.
Throughout years stuck on a couch, I honed my craft.
My art today is a representation of all of those pain filled days. Days that could have been defined solely by the pain, fear, and isolation. It is the cumulation of day after day choosing to create in the midst of such darkness that allows me to make beautiful things today.
My ‘10,000 hours’ were put in from a couch. In pain. Adjusting to new medicine and while watching TV. It is not glamorous but it is beautiful in its own way.
If you are in a season of battling from your couch, I hope you know you are not alone. That whether your pain is back tomorrow or not you can make the world more beautiful. This art is for you.
